(That's in Michigan. It's the capital, not Detroit.) After half a muffin loaf, a bag of cheese puffs, fruit jammers, and many glorious sightings of water towers, they were still in the evil land of Indiana, home to nothing and more nothingness. Twelve hours passed and Indiana seemed to never end. Si se puede was the only thing that kept them going. Finally! The Michigan state line, "Great Lakes, Good Times", and they weren't kiddin'.One hour later, they arrived at "the parent's" friendly abode. Hugs and Excitement greeted them at the door. Those are the parent's names, Hugs and Excitement. Hugs (a.k.a. the Mom) cooked a meal fit for a king, or at least two very hungry girls. For you see, they only had had half a muffin loaf, cheese puffs and fruit jammers all day and they were quite hungry. The meatballs, rice, and mashed potatoes were extremely well accepted by the two girls. Then, they slept.Fortunately, they woke up just in time to celebrate the new year with Excitement. Hugs was not feeling well, so she slept the new year away. Then the two girls slept some more.On Sunday, the girls were quite hethanistic and did not go to church, but ordered pizza and watched movies all day. They explored the luxurious town of Dansville, population 503. Then they slept.Monday was quite a day for the two girls. They explored the quizzical, yet fascinating, Lansing Mall. After buying the same cowboy boots, one of the girls (the one with red hair) decided to show her new boots off at Finley's, a tasty restaurant, and then at the movie theater, where the girls watch "Fun with Dick and Jane". They laughed at some parts, and at some parts they didn't. After the movie, they went home and slept.Tuesday brought even more joy and happiness for the two girls. They started their day by having a splendid run with Happy the Labrador (the redheaded girl's dog). Red nearly tossed her cookies, well parfait, after a lovely run, but she pulled through and did not vomit in those people's yard. After freshening and beautifying, Red and Bruney made their way to the Mason Library where they sent an electronic message to all their friends letting them know how much fun they were having. After that, the most extraordinary thing happened, they sang on the capital steps! With their voices ringing in the heavens, some locals took some pictures to keep as souvenirs for when the two become famous. Bruney, whose first time it was in Michigan, had her first Beaners coffee experience. It was good coffee. Now, it was off to the Irish Pub, for Red and Bruney, for some good times with old friends. There were many people there, because it's a restaurant, but there were 5 of Red's friends sitting at one table together. Since it was an Irish Pub, Bruney and Supa Fichelle decided they should dance a jig right there in the restaurant. So, they did. So, one Monte Cristo and Cheeseburger later, we were waiting to watch "The Producers". Some of the friends thought it would be a fantastic idea to try to catch KitKat bites in their mouths from the second floor, it was a valiant effort but proved unsuccessful. Then they went home and fell asleep.Wednesday was the day they had been looking forward to all week long. It was the day they would see "it". It was an early start on the cold wintry morning. Five United Bretheren Churches later, they arrived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In a sketchy part of town, they decided to go to Goodwill, a consignment shop, and a local Wendy's. Yes, there are Wendy's in Michigan. Then, off to their goal, their mission, their destiny. Fruitport, Michigan. An hour later, there she was standing tall and golden in the sun, smiling down on them. Wow, what a beauty! </strong><br /><strong>The Great Lake was next on their list. The two girls didn't exactly know where they were going, but Bruney could "feel" the water and guided them straight to the oceanic lake. She was a bit off, but they found it anyways. The lake was marvelous and cold. Icebergs stood as if to say, "Dare not enter here, for the water is far too cold for two young girls to enter." After finding a few souvenirs, they marched the march of happiness at their findings and went to eat ice cream. Yum! Then it was back to Hugs and Excitement's house, but before they got home they took a detour to the hardware store to hang out with Excitement while he was working. Then it was back to the house for burritos, peach cobbler, and another movie. Then they slept again.They were quite excited for Thursday to come because it was the day that they had planned to go ice-skating. Ready to take the ice, Red and Bruney set off for the rink only to find it closed and foreboding. Come to find out they were on open for only 29 minutes at a time. They had just missed it. So, what to do? Shopping, of course! They went to the Meridian Mall and looked for Bruney a purse because her other one had a large hole in the bottom, and that will never do. They tried on a couple of gorgeous dresses, but the dresses were so powerful that it overwhelmed the two girls beauty so much that all you could see was the dresses themselves. Off to the train station, but not for what you might think. They met Hugs and Excitement there for food and margaritas. It was all quite fantastic. Supa Fichelle met them to escort them to sing some karaoke, but when they got there they found not only no karaoke, but a room full of basketball fans. They hung out there for a while and then Supa drove them back to their car, and then Red drove back home. I laid down a really good vocal track on a song that i've been working on since yesterday. Jane style in the summer.. then i had some breakfast, peanut butter toast...and that was a good time. then i decided that i needed to be productive on a day that i have nothing planned..so i did some recording. i finally figured out Aaron's recording system and was anxious on trying it. well at least i thought i figured it out. after struggling for a while i decided to eat some some lunch and piddled on the computer some more and chatted with becca and persistantly told her that she needed to go to bed. then i took a nap. i awoke bout a half hour later and took another stab at the whole recording thing and got a little further, but suddenly my fingers forgot how to play piano..i was getting quite frustrated. after a couple of insane hours of that madness i recorded one song and then decided to take a bubble bath. i think that was the highlight of my day. i dunno it's a toss up between that and the peanut butter toast. and then...i got hungry again so i thought this might be a good time to get out of the house and get some grub..but then jen called reminding me about helpin the kids at church tomorrow and that was fun. then as i was leavin to get grub i got on the computer and chatted with becca again, persistantly tellin her to eat something..and then i left to get my own grub only to find my car doors were frozen shut and there was a thick layer of ice under the snow on the windshield... so that took forever to clear off. and then i went to the thai restaurant down the street only to be closed. that sucked cuz i really wanted thai. but i saw that bongo java was still open so i went there, but their kitchen closed at 8pm...which sucked even more. i really did not want to settle for fast food so i decided to go to kroger. i got spicy sushi, gingerale, and Regardless how early you have to get up the following morning, staying up till 3,4, and sometimes 5am in the morn hanging out with friends is totally worth it.<br />8. God is awesome<br />9. I heart LM<br />10. I like pink sometimes<br />11. Eskimos are hilarious<br />12. Community theatre is not as scary as I thought it would be<br />13. Diets are stupid. Ice cream is amazing.<br />14. I will apologize now, but when I write about serious stuff, I really write with my heart on my sleeve, so bear with me. (I guess that’s appropo for a songwriter). This may seem a little bit like an elongated acceptance speech in an award show, lol, but I really wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to a lot of people.<br />Anywayz, two years ago today, I moved to Nashville.<br />Some at home in Michigan might say that I really haven’t been all that successful in my initial pursuit~ I’m not singing in any bands, I’m not singing in any clubs, I really don’t have many contacts, and yeah I’m still workin on that demo. I’ll admit, I have days where I’m not happy about that, but to say that I regret moving here is absolutely absurd. I have personally grown so much since I’ve moved and I have soo many people to thank because of that.<br />First off, I need to thank God. My faith has taken huge leaps since I moved here. I have always been a believer, but Christianity is much more than just believing!! I’m more than a believer now, I’m a follower.<br />God surrounded me and continues to surround me, with some amazing Christians. I’m so lucky. Sometimes, He has to bring tragedy into someone’s life in order to bring you closer to Him. I, on the other hand, was &shy;soooo fortunate. He brought me triumph and blessed me with friends that reflect His amazing glory. I go to church. I own a Bible. I read the Bible. Once a month I have communion. I pray and I listen. All of these things I either seldom did, or have never done at all~not until I moved here.<br />A load has been lifted off my shoulders. It took a few humbling experiences, but I finally loosened a grip on pursuing a music career. I know now, that if I don’t win a Grammy, it’s gonna be okay..lol.<br />And now for my two biggest supporters: my parents.<br />This was the one reality I expected would hit me. I wanted to know what it was like to miss them. Not that I wasn’t close with them, it’s just I’ve never been apart from them. I think the longest I’d ever been away from home was like a week. I went major cold turkey. I never moved out for college, I commuted (Go community college!!). So moving to Nashville was quite the leap! I surprised myself at how well I adapted. I adapted to the change very well actually. For those who know me, however, know that I get extremely homesick from time to time. It’s amazing. Normally I wouldn’t call myself a crier, but all I have to do is think, or talk about my parents and I can easily tear up. I love them so much. They are the most unselfish people in the world. If I needed five dollars, mom would send fifty…lol. That’s the way they are. They support my crazy dream. They want it as badly as I do. In fact, I think they want it more than I do..lol. Not many parents would do that. Most would recommend the safe and smart route. I’m so lucky (you’re gonna here me say that a lot). They will make the 8hr trip in a heartbeat to come hear me sing. It’s not something they can easily afford. They sacrifice so much time and money for me. I can’t thank them enough. I would be nowhere without my parents.<br />It was sad to leave some of my friends behind, but like high school, we all kinda move on after we graduate. I do have one friend, however, who from day one of being here, persistently called just to say hi, keep me updated on all the gossip, and would check to see how I was doin. Jess you are an amazing, loyal friend. I love you!! You helped me get through some of those lonely days when I had no one to talk to. We’ve known each other for a short 3, maybe 4 years, and it feels like I’ve known you forever! We sure have been through a lot together haven’t we??~ the drama at school, a couple of Missouri trips, the time when you and I were grilling bratwurst at your house(HA! you are so lucky that you still have your hair…LOL), you trying to keep me calm in New York before the Apollo, and not mention the boy probs..eeck!! LOL I miss you girl!!<br />I know you’re goin through a lot right now and I just wanna say that you’ve got my support and you always will. Even when other friends turn their backs on you, you know I’ll be here, just as you’ve been there for me! I love you Jess!!<br />If it wasn’t for the amazing friends that I have here in Nashville, I probably would have moved back home. Like I said, I am so lucky to have you all in my life!<br />I’m positive it was God who put that newspaper in my hand that day when I saw the ad for the Tune Town Show Chorus auditions. I didn’t even know it was Sweet Adelines. I didn’t even know what Sweet Adelines was..lol. I just wanted to be singing again. I had no idea what I was getting into….<br />So most of you now know that I’m a die-hard Sweet Adeline. I’m in an awesome quartet called “Last Minute.” We even have a posse~the LMP (Dan, Jeff, and Frank- you guys rock!)<br />~*sigh* I could write a million pages about the quartet, but I’m gonna try to summarize everything the best I can…lol~<br />Jen + Deidra = Jendra. HA!! Jen what would I do without ya!! First of all, you’re the one responsible for Last Minute. Not only did you create a monster..lol, you created a family for me:) I’m sure I’m speaking on behalf of “Last Minute” when I say you’re just an all around amazing person. We certainly are spoiled! Secondly, you’ve been one of my biggest supporters down here. Thank you for accompanying me at the Illinois trips!! It means so much!! I look up to you in &shy;so&shy; many ways: your phenomenal character and your awesome musicianship. Thanks again for being such a wonderful friend/”sister”/coach/managaer..lol. I love you Jen!!<br />Hey Meagan!! Remember, um that time when, um, we sang in another quartet before “Last Minute.” hehe.. Aww, my little red-headed Meagy!! You were the first to invite me over for dinner (your grandma is an amazing cook by the way). You were the first to call me about forming “Last Minute.” I remember the voicemail you left..haha. It was so formal…lol. It’s just so weird to think that there was a time when I didn’t know you!! You are my sister in so many ways, and it’s not because of the hair..lol. I’ll never forget that time when you house sat my cat during thanksgiving. You picked me up from the airport, and when I came home, my fridge, notorious for being quite bare inside, was stocked with a bunch of goodies-and not to mention ice cream in the freezer. Honestly, i just needed to get out of the house. Well, i got a callback for Tuesday evening and well.. guess what?? I'm in a show!! I totally didn't expect this, especially because there is some acting involved and frankly my acting sucks..lol. I can already tell you that the show is extremely cheesy. We don't sing with piano accompaniment, we sing along to cd tracks and yeah.. they are pretty amazing! </span></strong><br /><strong><span style="color:#009900;">the show opens the friday after thanksgiving(nov 25), and will continue every weekend until December 18th at Lakewood Community Theatre. I was bored with the blue, white, and beige color scheme and thought i need to cheer this room up with some color! sooo yesterday i bought an amazing shower curtain with pretty flowers and butterflies that accented colors such as purple, yellow, pink, and green. I put it up today and thought, i need a new rug and few things to tie it all together with a certain color.(can u tell i get into this home decor crap??) Although several of his relatives now have nothing, they all are so thankful to be alive. his parents, now retired, had built a church almost sixty years ago and for many years it has been a shelter for hurricanes. The current pastor, an italian man from chicago, had just moved himself, his wife and his 2 young daughters a couple of months ago. this was someone i'm sure knew nothing about hurricanes...lol. Shortly before the attack of Katrina, the family decided not to evacuate the city and stayed in the shelter of the church, even though it was recommended that they leave. the pastor said that he felt that God in some way was telling him to stay and so he obeyed him. Needless to say, the hurricane was fierce and during the worst of the storm, the church began to flood. the salt waters rose to a good five feet, forcing the family to the second floor of the church. Particularly in the last couple of days, i come home, excited to see that my roommate's car isn't home and figure i have the luxury of having a spacious apartment to myself.
